Gerry Costello is from Skehana near Menlough in the county of Galway and has lived there for practically his whole life. He began his career as a computer technician and assembly operator with Digital Equipment Corporation in Galway. He stayed with the company for twenty years and during this time worked in various roles there in Quality Assurance, Process Engineering and Documentation Control before leaving and becoming a full-time professional photographer.
Gerry's new business grew over the years and he became renowned as as one of Irelands leading and more sought after photographers. His knowledge and expertise was greatly appreciated by his colleagues throughout the industry when the computer and digital revolution took over from the film based industry. gerry received many awards for his work as a photographer but with the changing economy and the changing world of photography, Gerry retired in 2017 and it was his delight to be awarded 'Most Creative Wedding Photographer' in 2018 for his work in the wedding industry during 2017. The award was made to him by the Irish Enterprise Awards 2018 at a function in the Citywest Hotel in Dublin in April of that year ........ a fitting tribute to end his career in photography.
Gerry always had a great interest from his early childhood in music and in particular country music. After retiring from business, Gerry created a hobby recording studio solely for his own pleasure and entertainment in the building that housed his Photography Studio. It was only after a chance meeting with Brendan Gavin that Gerry took on the role of presenting a country music programme on the internet station set up by Brendan in Dublin called Coastline Radio and the rest is history .......... as they say !
Nowadays, Gerry passes some of his time as a radio presenter on Coastline Radio, Dublin & for Phoenix Country Radio, Derry and at his own radio station, Atlantic Shore Radio. As a further hobby, Gerry writes short stories and has had two books published.
